A: Whoever feels called to do so in this life. Not everyone is meant to change their name. Each person has their own individual path to live in this life, and should learn to cultivate their intuition to guide them to the truth.
🌞 I chose to seek a spiritual name, because it was something I was feeling called to over and over. My path in this life is meant to hold a deep transformation from dark to light. Some of my most soulful artworks from the last several years were made with this very obvious theme, I am only now beginning to understand the deep connection between what I was creating and my own destiny. I once answered in an IG survey that "transformation" was my "super-power"...little did I know what that actually meant.💁
Q: What is a spiritual name?
A: A spiritual name is a vibration and a tool that helps to elevate your energy through the power of its sound current and meaning. Your name is a vibrational imprint on your soul, just as everything is energy, so is sound, the vibration of sounds hold specific energies. "Your spiritual name is... your heavenly identity, you may or may not live to it, but it is a guiding force and a prayer....when someone speaks your spiritual name it is a calling, and you answer the calling..." Yogi Bhajan. A spiritual name is NOT a fad, or a fun quiz on social media, it is a conscious leap towards living for your highest potential in this life, believing that you were given a mind and therefore a mission...may your name give rise to that mission.
🌞 My spiritual name is Jot Ravi. Jot is light, Ravi is the Sun. It is a prayer to manifest the gift of embodying my happy & positive self, like the warm sun, by connecting to God's divine light...my namer, Nirinjan, advised, "the paths of all those around you are effortlessly guided with harmony, joy, support and profound radiance through your oneness with the luminosity of the Divine." Sounds good to me :)
Q: When should someone seek a spiritual name?
A: Only if you genuinely feel called to and only at the time that it feels right for you> when you are ready to embody the gift of a new name with a specific vibration for your destiny as a soul. For some that is a time of massive transformation from who they were as a youth and who they are meant to be as an adult. This choice often comes after thoughtful consideration and often times meditative inspiration. Some people struggle to break away from the way they were viewed as a child by their family. Some people work very hard in life to break out of limiting views of themselves imposed by others and their own idea of who they are supposed to be. A spiritual name can help a person live life to their highest potential.
🌞 One month ago (Feb18 2021) I received my spiritual name in an email...I had requested it a few days prior. For me, now was the time, I felt a huge restructuring of my interpersonal world taking way and after considering the option for nearly 3 years I knew for sure the idea of a spiritual name resonated long term. It was time to take it seriously, to be brave and bold by committing to the highest vibration of self through all the tools possible. I've spent the past month integrating this name into my mindset and sharing it personally with as many people closest to me as possible. I am ready to make this change in an outer sphere now...like the spring blooms that emerge effortlessly from their cozy buds, I intend to shine in each now moment as Jot Ravi Kaur.
Q: Where does someone obtain a spiritual name?
A: In general, it is a name given by an ordained person, either at birth with rich tribal tradition, or sought out later in life when a person is feeling an energetic shift and life transition. Sometimes a person seeks to "remember" their soul's name through deep meditation with their self and their guides if they feel comfortably confident with their intuitive nature. You may also seek an ordained/divined person to give you your name. A common method for folks already seeking a spiritual path is through the kundalini tradition, where they might have already found deep resonating truth within the spiritual technologies practiced. Also, someone completing Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training will receive a name from this tradition, where Sanskrit can be found as the origins. There are various avenues and a person should seek out a method that feels true to them.
🌞 I sought my spiritual name through 3H0, an organization promoting Healthy, Happy, Holy living with Kundalini and Ayurvedic tools available for all. There is a Spiritual Names Office that is operated by Nirinjan Kaur, who was the right hand of Yogi Bhajan...the teacher of my teacher. I filled out a brief online form explaining my reason for seeking a name, and made a donation. I received a reply within 3 days.
Q: Why does someone want to change their name, especially to a language not their own?
A: Sometimes people can feel a heavy imprint of their birth name and wish to find something that resonates with their soul. Like getting a fresh haircut after a big break-up, a spiritual name offers a vibrational shift in the life of the seeker. A spiritual name can offer a new start, a fresh vibration, and an awakening of the higher self. It seems that the seeker of a new name usually has some sort of connection to the language of origin, either in this life or past lives.
🌞 My relationship to Ayurveda & Kundalini is one of deep gratitude and it is why I chose to seek a spiritual name within that tradition. I found my way to Ayurveda & Kundalini through a beautiful, yet long & arduous journey of opening to life.🦋🦋🦋🦋🧈🦋 By following just a few practices of these life sciences I have felt deep and long-lasting changes in my health, state of mind, and personal reflection. I have been familiar with the powerful vibration of mantra since I started meditating in 2013, (Thanks Oprah + Deepak) I could feel the truth of this immediately through practice. Several years later, moving deeper into Kundalini practices and with consistency I began to feel the magnetism of what I was chanting. I could feel how the vibration of the sounds were positively changing the way I felt, thought, and reacted. This is why I believe changing my name will positively impact my ability to live out my soul's mission with grace & strength. Simply put, I wish to vibrate on a different level.
Meghan means Pearl, and for much of my life I felt a strong feeling, that I needed to break out of my shell. Always a bit shy and reserved, feeling like I needed a rescue, feeling like it was hard to shine as bright as I felt inside. I was searching for spirituality from a young age, spending more than a decade wrapped up in religion, I came out the other side discovering that I must "save" myself by discovering the divinity within me. My transformation began in my late twenties undergoing a massive overhaul of personal health & religion while finishing my degree in Art. Discovering that my own deep sensitivity had led to me feeling completely overwhelmed by life and without real tools to cope in a healthy way. The determined spirit within me went out seeking answers, and there were many along the way to finding a way of life that helped me rescue myself. This transformation intends to help me share the light I have found.
