I don’t know about you, but I always feel so much better with a clean π mouth. My mom always says “I feel like a million bucks!” After she brushes her teeth. She engrained this in me. Taking it a step further here with tongue scraping.
Benefits include: fresh breath, less toxins in your body, better sense of taste, improved digestion, and internal organ stimulation :)
I’ve gotten plastic tongue scrapers from the dentist before and have always cleaned my tongue to the point of gagging with the toothbrush, but I didn’t start taking it seriously as a daily ritual until I started formally studying Ayurveda. Ayurveda is a sister science of yoga, just as old, just as valid.
Now I use a medical grade stainless steel tongue cleaner (made in US) that only set me back like $8, and will last me forever! Reducing plastic is always a great idea! I highly recommend the Certified B Corp Banyan Botanicals for all your Ayurvedic supplies. They also have a phenomenal dosha quiz to help you fine tune your health based on your specific constitutional make-up. I will cover more about Ayurveda in future posts.
ππ¨Ritual Remedy π
- [ ] Get yourself a shiny new tongue cleaner via Banyan Botanicals- [ ] In the morning, after your lemon water
- [ ] Wash your tongue cleaner with soap and hot water
- [ ] Starting from the back of your tongue using medium pressure, swipe the goop coating from your tongue.
- [ ] Repeat swipes until your tongue feels/looks clean
- [ ] Wash your tongue cleaner with soap and hot water
- [ ] Rinse mouth and brush teeth/floss as normal
- [ ] Oil pulling is extra credit π
Once you see how much goop comes off your tongue in the morning you will be motivated to clean it daily! It’s only about one minute extra to your routine, and totally worth it! This is another simple ritual to add to your day and show yourself how consistent you can be.
